Highlighting a charged path from Moscow to Miami, the Russian innovative trio who amplify the progressive and electronic house sound are known as Swanky Tunes. The group formed in 1998, experimenting with different electronic styles in pursuit of their own sound. At first, there were techno sounds mixed with vintage synthesizers. Then the group moved into a distinctly big-beat influenced sound. These days, hints of the techno, electro-80’s, and the contemporary progressive house movements are all finding their way into the mix.
With their uplifting anthemic sound, the Smolensk based music pioneers deliver dance floor bangers to nightclubs and festivals around the globe. Whether it be in the studio, on stage, or the global music charts, the Showland label headliners are at the forefront of electronic dance music. Josh Wink is an electronic music DJ, label owner, producer, remixer, and an artist. He is a native of Philadelphia and a pioneering DJ in the American rave scene during the early 1990’s, Wink was the most prominent exponent of the tribal forms of techno and house in the U.S. Taking trends, making trends, and breaking trends, Josh Wink’s music has always experimented and influenced. The sound of Josh Wink today remains one of a man unafraid to walk the border between stylistic boundaries. Steve Bug is a German DJ and music producer in the field of minimal house. His DJ skills and a keen, innovative ear led him not down the typical path of the early nineties trance and harder dance scene, but instead towards a fresher, hybrid sound-merging stripped deep house, tweaked out acid and more minimal forms of techno and electronic music.
These two talented DJs are coming together to participate in a series of four back-to-back performances at Kehakuma on the legendary terrace of Space Ibiza. Bug’s house-meets-techno sound has served as a driving force behind today’s commonly dubbed “Berlin sound,” and represents a natural compliment to Wink’s acid-edged genre-blending brand of house. The first of the four exclusive back-to-back performances will take place this Saturday, June 13, with support form Radio Slave and Javi Bora. The remaining three sets will follow each month with dates on July 11, August 8 and September 12. Don’t miss out on these four unforgettable performances by these two unique and talented DJs!
The Swedish duo, Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom, came together in 2006, combining pop-leaning electro sounds and an over-the-top attitude. This eccentric duo injects their EDM with humor that fills dance floors to its capacity. They don’t care about genres. They don’t care about smartness. They don’t care about the things you care about. They just care about making their audience wanting to jump up and down all night long. Their single “The Fashionista Swindle” parodied the Sex Pistols with its artwork, “The Great Smorgasbord” introduced their love of processed meat, while “Do the Dada” introduced their love of being self-referential. Any song they choose to play fills the floor wherever the hottest electro is welcomed. They went official in 2009 with their debut album, Just Do The Dada, released by the Hussle label and featuring track titles like “Don’t Snort the Yellow Snow” and “So You Wanna Be a Prankster?” Their tour that followed after their album release, introduced Europe to their kinetic live shows where inflatables flew through the crowd, booking agents were forced to “Do the Dada” themselves, and the duo’s tour rider stated that the backstage area must be filled with champagne and bananas or the venue was punished with a tech-house set.
In 2010, they toured with Tiesto, playing remixes from Kylie Minogue to Chickenfoot and collaborating with Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, and Tara McDonald. In 2011 they headlined the Electric Daisy Festival in Los Angeles with a full marching band to perform their song “White Noise/Red Meat”. In July 2014, Dada Life debuted Dada Land: The Voyage, a mini-festival in San Bernardino, CA attended by over 10,000 fans where the duo arrived via hot air balloon. Dada Life will be gracing New York City tonight with their unique and enviable beats. Be sure to join this hilarious and extremely talented duo tonight at LAVO NYC for an unforgettable night. As Dada Life would say, “Destroy dance music and have fun. Don’t look back in the past. Always go forward. Don’t think too much. Always follow the money”. M.A.N.D.Y. is a Berlin-based Microhouse, minimal house, techno group consisting of the talented duo, Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung. There is an air of mystery of the true meaning behind the acronym M.A.N.D.Y., which is an alias that embodies the mutual talents of these two childhood friends. They readily indulge this curiosity by toying with various clever possibilities, including Me AND You, but the truth is likely a meaning of their individual talents that has not been made to the public. Their ultimate expression of their dance music phenomenon is attributed to their foot stamping and hair flying techniques. They have a unique niche in electronic music by consistently selecting productions that induce their audience into a somatic frenzy.
M.A.N.D.Y. joined Booka Shade and DJ T to create the Get Physical Records and produced a caliber of electricity that rippled throughout the EDM community and into the relative mainstream that started first in Frankfurt and then in Berlin and now all over the world. When all three groups joined forces, they have pushed the boundaries of dance music to compile an enviable arsenal of electro kissing house while caressing disco and flirting with techno. With Booka Shade, M.A.N.D.Y was responsible for the club hit “Body Language,” which was named “Ibiza Track of the Season 2005” and has been licensed to more than 100 compilations. M.A.N.D.Y continues to power through with a perpetual rebirth into pulsating beats and pretty lights.
This dynamic duo are some of the most heavily booked house-DJs in Germany and continually gaining recognition internationally. Get Physical label released Hausmusik Vol. 1 last year with the idea of creating music well-suited for home enjoyment as well as on sweaty dance floors. The home listening series returns this month for a second time with the release of Hausmusik Vol. 2 with cuts from James Holden, M.A.N.D.Y. and Francesco Tristano to demonstrate the professional sound systems and sweaty dance floor antiques from the comfort of your home or a private party for an intimate selection of people and music. Don’t miss out on Get Physical label curator M.A.N.D.Y (Phillipp Jung) at Up & Down (244 W 14th St, New York, New York 10011) in NYC for this week’s installment of the Porn Shop. He will be joined by 2 other special guests alone with ZigZag regular Bru. Get ready for a night of mind boggling music with a dash of deep seductive vibes. 1. When did you start DJing and what or who were your influences at the time?
I first got into Djing when I was 15 years old, my first mixtape had a 50 Cent Track, Snoop Dogg Track & Mariah Carey Track I used to play it at school on my Mini Disc with a pair of computer speakers that I wired up to a 9volt battery. At that point in time the main influences for me were all the Power 106 LA Djs, I really looked up to them, also my buddy DJ EFX for helping me with my first pair of turntables.
2. What is your best DJ memory?
I’d say hearing my track “Megazord” being played at EDC Las Vegas this past year.
3. Out of all the tracks you’ve spun, which one never fails?
Theres a lot out there that always pop off, I’d say – “This Is Dirty” by DVBBS & MOTi, no matter what venue I play at people always lose their mind for that track, its heavy.
4. Who are your biggest musical influences currently?
Porter Robinson, My Boys at Trapstyle Bass Collective and Blasterjaxx
5. You have been blowing up on the West Coast recently, what has contributed to that?
50% the music 50% the party, I bring something fresh to the scene on the West Coast, I’m constantly finding new ways to bend genres, I’ve even dropped a Taylor Swift Remix in the club before and I think people appreciate my willingness to take risk and be innovative. Not only that but I love to incite madness, everyone shows up knowing its going to be a party.
6. Tell us 5 things about yourself that people don’t know.
- I once hit a 7-10 split while bowling
- An alpaca showed up at my birthday party
- I once traded a car for a watch
- I don’t like fennel seeds
- I used to practice using the force on small pencils and pens
Originally from Queens, NY….he will be returning this weekend to grace us with his DJ talents so don’t miss out on any of these epic nights and be sure to RSVP to email@example.com
